The Philosophy of Identity

My mother said to me, “If you become a soldier, you’ll be a general; if you become a monk, you’ll end up as the Pope.” Instead, I became a painter and wound up as Picasso………..Pablo Picasso

Wow its been a minute since I’ve done this…between everything the chance to write has been neglected…ashame isnt it…..but I think that is exactly where I must begin. How many of us are neglecting who we are because we have become tied into being busy. And a lot of our business does not create the happiness or help us reach the goals that we should be working towards.

These are the signs of the lack of self-empowerment that should be evident in each of our own individual lives who are seeking our own individual purpose. The quote I chose speaks in essence to what I hope each person grasp in life and that is don’t become a title become yourself. If I where to use biblical vernacular I would quote out of Genesis 12:1 when God tells Abram that I will make your NAME great. Many of us are looking for greatness in a title and even a position but true greatness is that we become ourselves….Our own identity. I heard somebody say that it is true that we are all born originals but all face the possibility of dying copies. When we are born we have an individual unique fingerprint…..the question is when we die will that fingerprint be remembered for who we are….are who we tried to be like……..

10 Ways To Become A Better Christian Man

1.Make God your FIRST appointment everyday

It is important that as men we understand our first priority and responsibility is to God. When God created Adam He created him to commune and worship Him. By making God our first appointment, God becomes our main priority and He leads the rest of the day. “the steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord”(Ps 37:23)

2. Walk In Integrity at All Times

Integrity is defined as the quality of being honest and adhering to moral principles, being whole or undivided. Integrity does not mean perfection. Integrity is being honest enough to admit when your wrong and doing whatever is necessary to correct it. King David was a man of integrity though he failed God with Bathsheba, when confronted with his actions he took responsibility and made things right with God. “the just man walks in integrity“(Prov 20:7)

3. Always Seek Godly Counsel

My pastor shared something with my church family I believe every man should put into practice. He said that every person should have three types of mentors a spiritual mentor for spiritual guidance, an economic mentor to show you how to handle your money, and a political mentor who can help you understand the political times we live in. Good counsel helps secure success. “Plans fail for lack of counsel, but with many advisers they succeed”(Prov 15:22)

4. Write Out Your Vision

Many times we know what we desire to be in our heads but don’t have an execution plan to see it come to pass. By writing our vision out we began to set a map for where we want to go. Here’s a little help how I started mine. Look up the definition of the word vision, write the definition out on the top of a piece of paper. List 5 things you see yourself doing and under each describe a characteristic you possess that will help bring that vision to pass.  “write the vision and make it plain” (Hab 2:1)

5. Commit to a List of Personal Life Principles to Live By

To me personal life principles are a “modus operandi” that help us achieve personal success. Life principles creates an inward accountability or a self check that keeps you focused. I make it a habit to review my list everyday before I go to bed. This helps  remind me the importance of what I committed to live by and when I wake up I know that these are the principles that will cause good success to come into my life “commit thy ways unto the Lord”(Ps 37:5)

6. Look for Ways to Serve Others

A mentor of mine gave me a quote from Martin Luther King Jr. “”Everybody can be great…because anybody can serve“. Through helping others we find joy in seeing someone elses needs met and helping someone else dreams come true. Because what you make happen for others God will make happen for you. “I did not come to be served but to serve”(Mk 10:45)

7. Honor God in All you Do

The Bible says “honor the Lord with thy substance”(Prove 3:9). The word substance has to do with the work of your hands or your means. What we work  at and produce should  honour God.

8. Walk In Forgiveness

One of the hardest things to do is to let go of resentment, hurt, and pain Sometimes our ego’s and pride cause us to hold things in. We may not always show it immediately but what we are holding  eventually comes out. We must remember that forgiveness is us extending to others what God has extended to us. So let it go and walk in forgiveness “forgive and ye shall be forgiven”(Lk 6:37)

9) Watch Your Mouth

Our words have the power to create good and evil. Many of the things we are living with are the result of the words we have spoken. God gave Adam the responsibility for naming everything he would have dominion over. What have your words created that you should be ruling over but is ruling over you? Watch your mouth!“death and life are in the power of the tongue”(Prov 18:21)

10) Be Vocal About Your Relationship with God

It is quite easy for men not to talk, especially when it comes to our relationship with God. I believe that the times we live in with crime running rampant and economic upheaval all around us requires we lift our voices. I believe the voice of true godly men can bring change to someone’s life. The Bible says “ye are the light of the world a city that is set on a hill cannot be hid” (Mat 5:14)
